The CSP Goals and Mission Statement:

The Commitment to Success Program (CSP) is a diversity initiative to enhance the retention and success of all students, with emphasis on historically underrepresented student populations such as students of color; women; gay, lesbian, and bisexual students: nontraditional age students; and students with disabilities. Since a diverse environment at The Ohio State University is central to the mission and the academic goals, this initiative also entails actions to assist units to create and maintain a welcoming and supportive climate both in and outside the classroom. The overall goal is to retain, recruit and promote a greater number of individuals from underrepresented groups in all disciplines at The Ohio State University.

The mission of CSP is to ensure that historically underrepresented students matriculate in a learning environment that acknowledges, respects, and responds positively to their unique educational needs and histories. Thus, strives to be an agent for change that fosters quality teaching and classroom equity. This diversity initiative grew out of close collaboration between the offices of Academic Affairs, Minority Affairs, and Faculty and TA Development. It is also an integral component of the University’s Academic and Diversity Action Plans.

Objectives:

  • To enhance the classroom climate on issues associated with diversity throughout the university and various departments;
  • To enhance departmental reputation, courses, and curricula in regard to diversity issues;
  • To assist in the retention of faculty and students of color at this university;
  • To recruit more students and faculty of historically underrepresented populations at this university;
  • To challenge all members of the university community through initiatives to continue to improve the academic, social, and professional climate for diversity and inclusion.
