GTF Comments
What do former Graduate Teaching Fellows say about the summer seminar? Excerpts from the 2003, 2004, and 2005 program evaluation:
What aspects of the seminar did you like best or find most useful?
"All of it, particularly the hands-on experience and the readings."
"Topics related to program implementation in teh department and practical workshop development issues were most helpful. I enjoy practical application of issues covered."
"Hands-on activities. Making the proposed ideas into practical and doable reality. The flow of ideas was natural and the setting very peaceful."
"I think the opportunity to meet other GTFs was a valuable part of the seminar. We got to learn a lot from each other's ideas and experiences. Exposing us to variety of different workshops and ways to implement them were very helpful."
“The facilitators both were very knowledgeable and had created a very friendly, open, and professional environment in the seminar.”
"I like the class on designing workshops and orientations. I also think the assignment of making a website was very useful, especially when it comes time for developing a departmental GTA website. Both things made me really think about when/how/why I would address these in my department."
"I found the readings very helpful in preparing for my role as a GTF. I also enjoyed our discussions and in-class activities."
"I really enjoyed the role-play on consultation."
"Great interaction with other TAs from different department."
"Excellent seminar. I think this is going to help me be a better teacher and a competent GTF."
"This has been a wonderful experience - I'm grateful to be part of this community of people interested in teaching and making an impact on our department."
