In addition to numeric evaluations, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese conducts internal evaluations of all Teaching Assistants. The following is a collection of representative comments from my students compiled from evaluations conducted during my most recent three quarters of teaching.
Enthusiasm and interest:
I enjoyed having a teacher who is
enthusiastic about teaching.
An instructor who cared about teaching students.
Instructor was well-prepared and patient.
Interaction and easy-going atmosphere:
The teacher made the class interesting and fun, which was helpful in
learning a difficult subject.
She spoke in Spanish at "our level" so we could understand her.
The instructor was friendly but tough = good combination.
Good material:
Easily understandable presentation of the material.
The examples she used in class helped a lot.
Her knowledge of culture and the multi-media clips she used were really great.
All the visual aids that were used really kept the class interested and involved.
Effective teaching and learning:
She involved the class so much, that you have to learn Spanish.
Class time used wisely.
The class time was the most valuable, because the teacher communicated well.
I learned a lot of Spanish.
Comments used to improve my teaching skills:
I think she tries hard, but she does not understand English well enough
yet - especially slang.
Once she learns more English she will be fine
The teacher needs to slow down a bit!
She should be more personable to students' special needs
Maybe going over vocabulary pronunciations more.
Not only speak Spanish, but write it on the board more.
More pop quizzes.
