The Academy of Teaching at The Ohio State University was created in 1993 by then President E. Gordon Gee. The Academy’s members are recipients of the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, the most prestigious award for teaching at The Ohio State University.
The Ohio State University, one of the top ranked public institutions in the country, is committed to improving student learning. OSU takes seriously its mission to provide a high quality education to its students who are some of the best in the country. It is the Academy’s mission to foster excellence in teaching as well as promote the importance of teaching. The Anthology will hopefully be the first in a series in which distinguished Academy members share their perspectives on teaching with the academic community.
As faculty, we are fortunate to teach in an environment that values teaching and believes it is a critical piece to the provision of a quality education. As a world class institution, with a world class faculty, excellence in teaching is a primary goal. The Academy strives to provide a forum for faculty to share the “scholarship of teaching”.
The Executive Council of the Academy of Teaching, wishes to dedicate this Anthology to outgoing President and CEO of the Alumni Association, Dan Heinlen. He has diligently worked for and been a pivotal player in the enormous success of the Alumni Association. The Academy will be forever grateful for his leadership in supporting and championing the mission and work of the Academy. We will miss you Dan!
