In the courses I teach, I try to convey the impact and importance of biology in every day life at the level of both the individual and society in a way that is accessible to people not majoring in the field. To do this I combine current events with the biology that occurs Œbehind the scenes‚. I encourage students to reach their own conclusions about issues once they understand the science. This is achieved through both collaborative and individual research and writing assignments. Students leaving the class have hopefully enjoyed it, discovered that biology and science are interesting, and learned material that will be useful to them throughout their lives.
