My teaching philosophy is a reflection of my life philosophy, which is grounded in a deep love and respect for all living creaures. I respect and try to acknowledge, at every opportunity, the awesome nature of every human being I encounter. Everyone is an important, worthwhile part of a great universal plan. We need each other and are connected to each other, and therefore, should frequently express our love and appreciation for each other's unique offerings.

In the classroom, I foster a positive environment of love, humor, and respect among all students. I do this by sharing my life philosophy on at least the first day of class and occasionally as I distribute graded exams, reminding them that a disappointing grade is no reflection of their human worth. I remind them of how awesome they are regardless of their performance in a mathematics course or any other course. Another way I foster a positive classroom environment is to continually encourage student questions by treating each question with respect or humor. I incorporate humor in every lecture, as well. I have fun with students, which shoes them how much I enjoy and appreciate them.
