Landscape Horticulture is a very applied field--not much theory, but a lot of hands-on experience. In my landscape design and maintenance courses, students spend more time producing information in studio and field sessions, than simply absorbing information in traditional lecture formats. We cover graphics, estimation, and installation practices. The goal is to equip our graduates with the actual job skills that the industry needs, enabling them to enter the job force competitively. We take a lot of field trips, and try to link classroom information with physical experience. My hope is that you'll learn some ecology (how landscape systems work) rather than just memorize some plant names.
