At its core, engineering is problem solving, and so my primary goal is to help students develop the skills needed to become efficient and accurate problem solvers. During lectures, I review important concepts and work many problems designed to demonstrate applications of these concepts. I try to make class as interactive as possible, with students often working together during these sessions. I firmly believe that working homework problems is one of the most important activities by which students learn, and so I put great effort into designing useful and challenging homework assignments. In some classes, students work in assigned homework teams throughout the quarter, an experience that helps develop teamworking skills and encourages students to learn by teaching others.
