My goal as a teacher is to provide a framework to understand the diversity of the American peoples and their competing beliefs regarding this nation’s culture, government, and identity. To illustrate that diversity, I encourage students to think about various ways to study the past. Recognizing that all scholars are influenced by their interests and perspectives, I seek to create a supportive teaching environment so that students feel comfortable expressing their ideas and engaging in analytical discussions.
